[Text Only] Let’s Play: Pokémon Platinum [Nuzlocke Challenge] – Part 8

Before we get ready to go into the Old Chateau and do what needs to be done there, I want to go over a few things I decided on. First of which being, inside the Old Chateau you can get 2 Pokémon. You can find wild Gastly/Haunters (same evolution family) and Rotom. Rotom is a Ghost/Electric type with “Levitate” as an ability which means it is no longer weak to ground types. But it does not have great stats and is weak to other types now too. Gastly is a Ghost Poison type so I have a psychic issue that I will need to deal with but after going over everything, Gengar has much better stats and has a better chance of staying alive than Rotom. If I had the key to access some of Rotom’s other forms this would be another story but since you can only get that from a Nintendo Wifi event that has long since passed, I believe this is the best route to follow. The other thing that I decided on is that I will be getting a Togepi egg from Cynthia in Eterna City very soon. I want to use this opportunity to try and get a Togekiss for the team (as long as it survives the game or as long as I don’t run into a Male Ralts down the road because I’ll need the shiny stone you get in the game for that.). If this goes to plan, Togekiss will be replacing Staravia/Staraptor when it dies or when Togepi/Togetic/Togekiss is at a good enough level to hold its own on the field. I may change my mind a lot about the lineup of the team between now and later in the game but for now this is my plan. With that said, I’ve taught Bidoof slave HM01 Cut and I’m heading into the Old Chateau.

On the way there, I pick up some berries and get a “Big Tree” for the Fashion Case (like I’ll ever need that =P), some SilverPowder and TM82 Sleep Talk which I don’t think I’ll ever need but I’ll hang on to it. Outside of the Old Chateau in Eterna Forest I find Gardenia who says there are ghosts in there and doesn’t want to go in, but says I should investigate the place for her (scaredy cat XD Ok, not really, I’d be kind of freaked out too.). I pick up and Ether and head in. Ok, I’ll admit, going into the Old Chateau with its creepy music and ghosts at 11:17 at night probably was not a good idea XD But I just want two things here and I’m gone. I pick up a Rare Candy and TM90 Substitute along the way and I’m surprised I’ve run into absolutely no Pokémon here yet. Nevermind, I just found a Male Lv. 14 Gastly! I use Copper to confuse the Gastly and put it to sleep so I can catch it with a Dusk Ball which I do successfully! :D As for a name, I shall dub thee Poe! No, not after the Teletubbie, after Poe Souls from Zelda or after Edgar Allen Poe who was a writer of Gothic Literature. Now before I forget, Poe is a Male Gastly at Lv. 14 with a Careful nature which raises its Sp. Defense but lowers its Sp. Attack. This is good and bad because Gengar is a good Sp. Defender (at least to my knowledge) but it is also known for good Sp. Attack. So it could go either way. After that I get the Dread Plate which will power up Ghost type moves and I head out of the Chateau. It’s sad that I didn’t see the child or butler’s ghost that you can sometimes see in that place but I guess that may happen in another playthrough.

Well it’s been about 3 weeks since I wrote that first part and what do I get to come back to? Training up Poe the Gastly! What’s worse than that? Having Poe the Gastly die to a stupid Kricketot that used Bide after living my Night Shade with 1 HP and then having to release my Gastly literally minutes after I pick this game back up after the long break… Lovely…. So yeah I’m really ticked off that I lost Gastly and this is the same night that after 6 days of Soft Resetting my Pokémon Heart Gold game to get a shiny Eevee, I decide to give up that hunt because it was getting really old and I figured that getting my favorite shiny (it's actually Umbreon but I digress) was not worth it anymore…. *sigh* Not a good start to this day since it is now 1 AM on a Sunday. Well, I guess it is time to go into the Eterna City Galactic building and take on what needs to be done there. I pick up TM 46 Thief and then head into the next Team Galactic Headquarters. Inside I find Looker dressed up as a Galactic grunt and tells me that a member of Eterna city when to get some Pokémon that Team Galactic stole back (or something like that… I wasn’t paying much attention at all at this point.). So now it’s time to take on the building and fight all the Team Galactic goons that are here.
After beating everyone here and healing ( I pick up the Friendship App from a lady at the Pokémon Center for my Poketch) it is time to take on the next Team Galactic commander, Jupiter. This is another battle I have trouble with just because her last Pokemon is as powerful/annoying as Mar’s Purugly. Well I need to save the kidnapped Pokemon and the dude who went to save them so I have no other choice but to battle. So here were go…

Starting out this fight with Bronzor she sends in Zubat. So that’s good for me. Her Zubat is faster and is Lv. 21 and hits me with Bite. Surprisingly my Confusion attack, though Super Effective, doesn’t do much damage at all. The next turn she causes me to flinch with bite. Then I use Confusion on the turn after and give her the Confusion status effect. Zubat hits itself in confusion and I finish it off with Confusion attack. Now she sends out the BIG pain… Skuntank. This is a Poison/Dark type so Bronzor is out but I want to Confuse and put it to sleep first. It uses Smokescreen to lower my accuracy like a jerk would, but I get a Confuse Ray off as planned. Skuntank hits itself in confusion and I put it to sleep with Hypnosis. Now to send out Karen the Prinplup. With Skuntank still asleep, I go in with Bubblebeam, though it doesn’t do much damage. It wakes up, and though still confused, it gets off a Smokescreen on me. I use Bubblebeam and its Sitrus Berry activates and restores health. It snaps out of confusion and tries to confuse me with Poison Gas. It uses Night Slash as a last ditch effort to kill me with a Critical Hit since there is a good chance that could happen with that attack, but it fails. I hit it with Bubblebeam and that is all she wrote. Prinplup levels up to Lv. 23 and I save the kidnapped Pokémon and the random dude who tried to save them. Jupiter tells me that they are searching for ancient Pokémon that they can control and become the rulers of Sinnoh. She tells me to stay out of their business and this is my “last warning” which is really not threatening. The guy that tried to save the Pokémon says that he owns the bike shop and will give me a free bike for helping. I leave to get my bike from the shop, but on the way, I run into Cynthia who gives me a Pokemon Egg with a Togepi inside. I take it and then go to get my free bike. So now I need to head south but I think I’ll do that another day. For now I need to hatch this egg and then train the Togepi to Lv. 22 with the rest of the team (if it survives). So I’ll write more next time when I move on in the storyline.

In Memory of Poe the Gastly who is now more of a ghost than he already was.... Good bye friend...

  1. Well, that was quick (not counting the 3 week break since you caught him). Would have been a nice addition to the party, but it probably couldn't be helped.

Good luck hatching and training the Togepi. :)
