[Text Only] Let’s Play: Pokémon Platinum [Nuzlocke Challenge] – Part 9

Ok, after one long hiatus I have come back to my Pokémon Platinum Nuzlocke challenge. First thing is first, I have decided to give up training the Togepi (whom I named Toby for some odd reason; keep in mind I named/trained him at like 3 A.M once) and will be going on with the main 4 members that I have. Now onward to Route 206 and Cycling Road I pick up the Exp. Share which will be VERY useful later, and continue on to beat the Cycling Road trainers. After beating the trainers on Cycling Road, I take a small detour back to Oreburgh to heal up. Well, a few interesting things happened during that ordeal. The whole team got level ups (including “Slave” the Bidoof who was “Roared” onto the field by a Shinx) and Staravia survived a critical hit from a Ponyta with 1 HP not just once but TWICE! Sadly though I regret to say that we did lose a member of the team to a critical hit. We lost Copper the Bronzor to the same Shinx who gave Bidoof the level up. It got a critical hit with Spark when Bronzor had about 30 HP left. I thought that would be enough but it wasn’t. I release him and continue on with the journey. On the bright side, I got a flag for my fashion case…. yeah that really doesn’t lighten the mood.

And then there were 3 as I headed on to Route 206 for the next Pokémon to add to the team. And the first thing I find is a Lv. 19 Machop which I manage to catch. Oddly enough I guess I had gotten one before in this play through and I just don’t remember. It has been 2 months after all. I name him “Chop-Ma” to make fun of Pokémon Stadium and to have fun with an inside joke. He has a gentle nature which gives him lower defense but higher special defense. Not too good considering most of his weaknesses are to physical based attacks but I’ll make it work. Again, this Pokémon is “Mischievous”… odd. Before I head on further I want to stop by the secret entrance of Wayward Cave and pick up a Pokémon that I am really praying I get. However, along the way, and I’m NOT joking here, Chop-Ma freakin died already!!! Why? I decided to train him up a bit. His first fight was against a Ponyta which at the end of the fight left him with 18 HP. So, I head back to heal up at the center but before I can a Wild Lv. 19 Machop appears. I try to run but I fail and the Lv. 19 Machop uses Seismic Toss. Since the Machop was Lv. 19 the attack does 19 HP of damage and I only had 18 left. So, I revenge kill the wild Machop with Staravia, run back to the center, release the Machop, head for Wayward Cave and try to salvage what little is left of this run as I can.

I make it too the “secret” entrance of Wayward Cave with as few trainer fights as possible. I begin the hunt for the Pokémon that I really desire. Do I find it? NO! What do I get instead!? A Lv. 19 Zubat!!! For those wondering, the Pokemon that I was after was a Gible. It only had a 20% chance of appearing in this area and Zubat only had a 10% chance of appearing according to Bulbapedia. Feeling crushed, I try to catch the Zubat but it dies to a critical hit from Staravia’s Quick Attack. Plus side, Luxio levels up since he was in the battle…. Hooray…

In honor of "Cooper" the Bronzor

And in honor of "Chop-Ma" the Machop

You will both be missed....

  1. Wow, the one time Zubats are less common than a better Pokemon you get the Zubat AND don't even get to catch it? Wow. :(
