[Text Only] Let’s Play: Pokémon Platinum [Nuzlocke Challenge] – Part 12

Let me start this out by saying that Soul the Gastly was a very unlucky Pokemon. He did not even get to attack… and after his attack missed, he was 1 shotted by a super effective critical hit “Confusion” from a Ralts of the same level. Needless to say, his training did not last long at all.

After all of that, I decided to pick up a few things around Solaceon Town. I got the Pokemon History App to see all my recent Pokemon captures, the Pokeball Seal case (to make my Pokeballs look pretty) and that was about it. Afterwards, I took a trip to the Solaceon Ruins to pick up HM 05 Defog. Along the way, I picked up a Water, Fire, and Thunderstone which I could use on Eevee but truth be told, I’m thinking I may evolve him into an Umbreon to compliment his higher Defense stat. The only Pokemon I picked up at the ruins was a Lv. 22 “N shaped” Unown. Since Unown only have 1 move (Hidden Power) I won’t be using him. I then departed to Route 210 where the first Pokemon I encountered was another Roselia. Since I had one already I passed up on this. After fighting all the trainers and picking up some berries along with the TM for Roost (TM51?) I go back into the Lost Tower. I bring my Lv. 5 Zubat along to use Defog when needed and since I fought all the trainers here already it was a quick walk to the top. At the top of the tower, I use Defog to help out an elderly couple who can’t find their way out of the Tower. Out of gratitude they give me a Spell Tag which I believe boosts the power of Ghost type attacks.

Finally, after all of that I go onto Route 215 (I can’t go north off of Route 210 since there are some Psyduck blocking the way) and pick up a Marill! I name this cute little water type “Tracey” after the character from the anime. I could have given it many other names had it been female but since it was a male Pokemon… well… I did my best. For some reason I actually decide to try and train this little guy up with the rest of the team. I know I had a water type already but it couldn’t hurt to have 4 Pokémon before the next gym.

Unfortunately, my experiment with using a Marill failed. It evolved into an Azumarill very shortly after I began training it. However, I lost it to a critical hit Rollout attack by another Marill about an hour into it’s training. So now it’s just my 3 main Pokemon heading out to face the Route 215 trainers. By this point I am quite concerned about how the next gym will go. As I fight the trainers I stop to pick up TM 66 Payback, a dark type move which I may use later on. After fighting all the trainers on Route 215 I finally enter Veilstone City, home of the next gym. After healing up the Pokemon I head into a house where a man said he stole an important Pokemon from Team Galactic and wants a responsible trainer to have it (or to take the fall for him…). So I pick up the Pokemon and it turns out to be a Porygon which since it’s like a computer program, I name it Toshiba. Afterwards, I head to Route 214 really quick to pick up another Pokemon. I find a Houndour on the first try but unfortunately it uses Roar and sends me off the battle field, thus feeling and I fail to catch it. I then go back to Veilstone and trade the Porygon (holding the Upgrade from the Eterna City Galactic Building) with Kevin to get a Porygon2. I then decide to train him up with the rest of the team before the next gym.

After training the whole team to Lv. 35 (except Eevee who is now Lv. 36 and still won’t evolve for me…) and after resupplying on healing items it is now time for the fighting type gym of Veilstone City. In front of the gym I’m greeted by Lucas and also the 5th gym leader of the game (the one I’ll be fighting after this) Crasher Wake who is like a wrestling water type loving gym leader… odd combo… After that, he leaves after telling me that the gym leader of this city Maylene is really tough. So, in the gym I go. I’m incredibly nervous since I have 2 Normal type Pokemon and Porygon2 is the only Pokemon with a super effective move to Fighting types. Either way I’ll just have to deal because ready or not here we go.

Ok, gym trainers down, annoying puzzle defeated, gym leader battle… let’s go! Well Maylene, how will you begin this match? She starts out with a Lv. 28 Meditite and I go in with my Porygon. With Meditite being Psychic/Fighting type Pysbeam won’t do much so I go with Signal Beam for normally effective damage. She gets a “Fake Out” on me first which was an annoying waste of a turn. Now Signal Beam goes off without a hitch and I 1 hit KO the Meditite. Now she goes into her Lv. 29 Machoke, a pure fighting type. I out speed it and I 1 Hit KO it with a super effective Psybeam. Now for the killer I have been dreading… her Lucario… a Lv. 32 Steel/Fighting type. I have nothing super effective on this thing with any of my team members and I know he’ll live whatever I throw at him. I go for a Pysbeam to get some normally effective damage on it. It’s faster and uses Force Palm, a super effective move on me. I switch in to my Roselia now so I may heal up Porygon2. Being part Poison, fighting moves don’t do much to Roselia but he does get paralyzed by Force Palm. After a few Metal Claws, Roselia can’t take much more and I go into Prinplup. Now Lucario goes for Drain Punch to heal up and I go for Brine. We both have low HP but I have more than he does. My Prinplup’s Quick Claw activates allowing me to go first, another Brine… it’s over! Lucario goes down and the battle is won with no casualties… I really can’t believe my whole team lived this fight. I’m very proud of them. I receive the 4th gym badge of Sinnoh from Maylene, the Cobble Badge and I get TM60 Drain Punch. But best of all, Prinplup gets to Lv. 36 and now evolves into its final form, Empoleon. It is now a Water/Steel type meaning it will now have many resistances to other types of Pokemon. I decide to finally get rid of Pound for Aqua Jet since it will be nice to have a “priority” move that gets STAB. After this I leave the gym and I’m greeted again by Lucas who says he’s had his Pokedex stolen by Team Galactic (almost wrote Plasma... too much Black/White). After healing up I go to Team Galactic’s warehouse to fight with Lucas and get his Pokedex back. Oddly enough, as we are battling together, Lucas sends out a Clefairy of all Pokémon. Afterwards, the Galactic grunts give back the Pokedex and retreat. They also say something about Sinnoh getting what it deserves in Pastoria City which just so happens to be where I’m going now. Lucas tells me about Pokemon Mansion over on Route 212 and then Looker shows up… about what I don’t really know. He then takes us to the warehouse to see what Galactic is up too. However, due to a door that can’t be opened without a key we can’t go very far. But I do find HM02 Fly which I can use to get back to Hearthome after I fight the trainers of Route 214. I teach it to Zubat and get ready to call it a night. My next agenda is to look around the city, head south to Route 214, fight the trainers there, and finally go to the Pokemon Mansion on Route 212. All things I can do in spare time and fill you all in about what happens next time as we head to Pastoria City for the 5th gym badge.

In honor of both Soul the Gastly and Tracey the Azumarill. While not long members of the team they will be missed none the less…
